Senior/Principal Structural Engineer
Job Description
-
Preparation of calculations, sketches and Autocad drawings for structural and civil engineering projects including steelwork, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry
-
Use of computer programs for structural design
-
Preparation of design details for CAD Technicians
-
Liaison with clients, architects, contractors, insurance companies, general public, local authorities and statutory bodies as necessary

Taking instructions from clients, preparing quotations and issuing interim certificates and final accounts
-
Checking drawings and calculations prepared by specialist sub-contractors e.g. steel fabrication drawings
-
Undertaking site surveys, investigations, building surveys and writing reports
-
Site visits for surveys, inspections and contract supervision
-
Issue of site instructions, certificates and contract correspondence
-
Attendance at project meetings with clients, architects, quantity surveyors and others
-
Compliance with Health & Safety and CDM Regulations and preparation of associated documentation

Advising the Partners on the progress of projects and any problems encountered

Promotion of the company, maintaining good business relations with clients and enhancing the company’s reputation

Required Qualifications and Skills
-
Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
-
Incorporated or chartered membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers or the Institution of Structural Engineers (MICE or MIStructE)
-
Candidates may be considered without incorporated or chartered status if they possess suitable expecience and are working towards professional membership
-
Knowledge of current Eurocodes/British Standards, Codes of Practice, Building Regulations and Health & Safety Legislation
-
A good working knowledge of Autocad drawing packages and computer design software for structural analysis
-
Good verbal and written communication skills
-
Full UK driving licence

Salary & Benefits

-
£40,000-55,000 depending on experience and qualification level
-
25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
-
Potential for limited flexible working following initial 6 month probation period
